Cameron Park homes are older than their neighbors
The 2020-2024 American Community Survey puts Cameron Park's median home at 1987, fifteen years older than El Dorado Hills (2002). Much of the community was built from the 1960s through the 1990s, with a mix of ranch homes on larger lots, golf course homes around the Cameron Park Country Club, and 1980s-1990s subdivisions.
1970s and 1980s ranch and split-level kitchens
These kitchens commonly have ceramic tile counters with a wood or tile edge, a drop-in cast iron or stainless sink, and cabinets built on site. Expect the installer to remove tile and its mortar bed, check the cabinets for level and rot under the sink, and sometimes add a new sink base. Older layouts with a cooktop in a peninsula or a soffit over the cabinets are worth rethinking at the same time. See countertop replacement for what that job includes.
1990s subdivisions
Homes from the 1990s often have first-generation granite with a heavy bullnose edge or tile with a granite-look pattern. Owners here usually move to quartz or a lighter granite, often with an undermount sink replacing the old drop-in.
Cameron Airpark Estates and other unusual properties
Cameron Park includes Cameron Airpark Estates, a residential airpark established in 1963 where about 128 homes sit on streets roughly 100 ft wide that double as taxiways to the 4,051-foot runway. Some homes have hangars attached. Hangar workbenches, bar tops in hangar lounges and large garage-adjacent kitchens show up in requests. Wide streets make slab delivery easy, but tell the fabricator about any access rules for the taxiways on install day.
Larger parcels elsewhere in Cameron Park may have workshops, guest units or covered patios that need their own tops, so it is often worth bundling several small pieces into one order.
Materials that suit Cameron Park homes
| Material | Fit in Cameron Park | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Granite | Traditional and foothill-style kitchens, outdoor counters | Seal periodically |
| Quartz | Updating 1980s-1990s kitchens with low upkeep | Not for outdoor sun or hot pans. Cut under Cal/OSHA silica rules |
| Soapstone | Farmhouse sinks, rustic remodels | Soft (around 1-2 on Mohs for talc-rich stone); scratches and darkens with use |
| Butcher block plus stone | Island prep areas paired with stone perimeters | Needs oiling |
| Porcelain | Covered outdoor bars, modern remodels | Thin edges |
Soapstone is less common across the region but fits Cameron Park's rural and farmhouse remodels well. It does not etch from acids and tolerates heat, but it scratches and develops a patina. See soapstone countertops. For a full overview, read types of countertops.
El Dorado County jurisdiction
Cameron Park is unincorporated, so building permits go through El Dorado County Planning and Building. A like-for-like countertop swap is generally finish work that does not need a permit. Relocating a sink, adding circuits, running gas to a range or outdoor kitchen, or removing a wall to open up a 1970s kitchen are separate jobs that can require county permits. Confirm with the county before any of that starts.
Cameron Park has a community services district, and some neighborhoods have HOAs or CC&Rs that govern exterior changes. Interior counters rarely need approval.
Logistics: farther up Highway 50
Cameron Park sits farther up US 50 than Folsom or El Dorado Hills. Most slab yards and fabrication shops serving the region are in the Sacramento area, so homeowners usually make one trip down the hill to choose slabs, and the fabricator travels up for templating and install. Ask whether travel time affects scheduling or pricing, and try to bundle kitchen, baths and any outdoor pieces into one template visit. Our countertop fabrication process guide explains each visit.
Water, care and cost
Cameron Park is served by the El Dorado Irrigation District. Homes east of Silva Valley Parkway, including Cameron Park, mostly receive EID's eastern supplies, led by Jenkinson Lake near Pollock Pines. This mountain surface water is generally low in minerals, so hard-water spotting is usually minor. Some rural parcels use private wells, which can be harder. For care routines, see granite sealing and countertop care.
